Neuroscience, explained clearly

For Intro to Neuroscience or Brain & Behavior — neurons, the brain, and how the signal actually travels.

  • Neurons, synapses, neuroanatomy and drug action
  • Explanations and exercises
  • Taught by a psychology teacher of 20+ years

What's in the course

Whichever of the two you're taking, split into topics and lessons — cells of the nervous system, how the signal travels, the synapse and neurotransmitters, neuroanatomy, and how drugs act on all of it.

The Intro to Neuroscience topics, filtered by how well you know them
Starting a lesson inside a topic
Starting targeted practice on your weakest topics
Your knowledge level, topic by topic
The warning that a topic is starting to fade
Asking the app about the Intro to Neuroscience material
The explanation of why an answer is right
  • Every topic, in order

Each course is broken into topics and lessons, so you always know which part you are on and which part you have not touched.

  • You answer, you don't re-read

Each lesson comes with questions — ordering, matching, fill the blank, multiple choice — so you find out what you actually know.

  • It comes back before you forget it

What you get wrong returns in a few days. What you know returns later. The early topics are still there at the end of term.

How it works

Learn it, practice it, remember it

The lesson explains the material. The questions right after check whether you actually understood it. The app brings topics back just before you would forget them.

01Lessons

Every topic, explained

The course is split into topics and lessons. Each one explains the concept before it asks you anything, so you are not tested on something nobody taught you.

02Practice

Questions, not more reading

Order the events at a synapse. Match agonists to what they do at the receptor. Fill in the blank. You find out what you know by answering, which is also how the exam will ask.

  • Interactive questions
  • You see where you stand

03Repetition

The old topics come back

What you got wrong returns in a few days, what you know returns much later. So you still remember what you learned in week 3 by the time you reach week 12, and you are not relearning the whole course the night before.

  • Nothing quietly fades

Ask when you're stuck

Ask about anything in the course and you get an answer from the course material itself, along with the lesson it came from. No weak sources, no hallucinations.

What students say

“I just finished watching the video, I haven't even opened my notes yet because this guy deserves this comment. BEST video ever, your page is my go-to. THANK YOU for explaining it so easily, my 1 hour and 15 minute lecture didn't explain it as well as your 12 minutes did!!”

Planning

Create your study plan

Put in the date of your exam and the course spreads itself across the weeks you have, instead of leaving all of it to the end.

  • Choosing how much of the course to include
    1

    Set the depth

Pick how much of the course goes into the plan — all of it, or just the parts your class actually covers.

  • Setting the start date and the exam date
    2

    Set the date

Say when the exam is. The sessions spread across the time you have left, instead of piling up at the end.

  • A day's plan: new material and review
    3

    Your plan is ready

Each day you get a mix of new material and review, sized to what's left before the date.

How you practice

Ordering, matching, fill the blank, multiple choice, flashcards — the same idea comes back from more than one angle, so you don't just memorise the answers.

Ordering the events at a synapse
Matching terms to what they mean
Filling in the blanks in a mechanism
A multiple-choice question
A question with more than one right answer
Sorting neurotransmitters into systems
Flashcards
Labelling a diagram of a neuron
Completing a table
Asking the app about a question

Questions

Which course is this — Intro to Neuroscience or Brain & Behavior?

Whichever one you're enrolled in. They are two separate courses and you take the one that matches your class — but they overlap heavily, so the neuron, synaptic transmission, neuroanatomy, sensation, sleep and memory turn up in each.

My course is called Biopsychology / Physiological Psychology / PSYC 372.

Same thing, different department. If your syllabus covers the neuron, the synapse, brain anatomy and how drugs act on them, this is the right page.

Isn't a lot of this free on YouTube?

Yes. His channel has 162 free lessons and they're good. What the free version doesn't do is put them in an order, ask you questions, or bring week 3 back in week 11 of a cumulative course.

I switched into this major and have no biology background.

That's a common way to arrive here, and the lessons don't assume you've done the prerequisites. They build the mechanism from the start rather than referring back to something you were supposed to already know.
