psychology exam

My psychology tutorials as a course in the Voovo app: lessons, practice questions and a study plan to your exam date. For AP® Psychology and for college Psych 101.

Go beyond the videos

More than the videos

My videos explain each idea. In the app you practice it with questions, see what you still don't know, and follow a plan until the exam.

The AP® Psychology course overview on a laptop and a sorting exercise on a phone
  • On your phone and laptop

Practice on your phone, review on your laptop. Your progress is the same on both.

  • In your course's order

AP® follows the College Board's five units. Psych 101 follows the 16 units of my intro course.

  • Questions that use the terms

Many questions are short scenarios, and every answer is explained.

  • See where you stand

Each unit shows what you know and what still needs work, so you know where to spend your time.

How it works

How the course works

The course is designed to encourage the research-based learning strategies that I recommend: answering practice questions and testing yourself repeatedly instead of simply rereading. In a study by Roediger & Karpicke (2006) students who reread passages did better than those who tested themselves if the test was in five minutes, but when the test came a week later the self-testing group outperformed rereading. If you want to remember material long-term, you need to engage in active practice with the material, not just passive rereading or rewatching.

02Practice

Answer questions on it

Multiple choice, fill in the blank, ordering, matching and sorting. Many practice questions will use a term in a short scenario, the way exams ask, and every answer is explained.

03Repeat

Review before you forget

What you get wrong comes up again within a few days. What you know comes up later, so the first units are still fresh on exam day.

About me

Key terms first, then why they matter

I try to explain concepts as if I were tutoring a student; going over key terms and explaining why these ideas matter for deeper conceptual understanding.

Maybe you're overwhelmed by hundreds of new psychology terms, names, and scientific jargon that you can't seem to keep straight. Or maybe you've learned the terms and concepts but you aren't really sure why they matter, and so you still get thrown off during tests.

We need to put in many many hours hauling those stones of basic facts, terminology, key concepts in the field. That's going to take up the majority of our time. But once we do that we'll find it's much easier to ascend and those higher order skills will start to emerge naturally.
